Thanks for your interest in volunteering for Circle K Service Day! On November 14th to the 15th, we will be hosting a continuous 24 hour stream of service projects in conjunction with other U of M service organizations. Pick and choose which projects you want to do and enjoy some free food just for volunteering! Please sign up for projects before 5pm Friday 11/13 as many projects will be closing then!

MAC Therapeutic Riding: 730am - 1230pm
The Michigan Abilities Center offers horse riding lessons to kids and adults who are recovering from injury or suffer from chronic physical or emotional disabilities, since horse riding has shown to strengthen essential muscle groups as well as provide a unique bond between horse and rider. On this project, we will assist in the lessons (leading the horse, spotting the riders), and help the staff with work that needs to be done around lesson times.Everything is outdoors, so dress warmly in clothes you're willing to get a little dirty with sneakers or work-boots.

Fen Workday: 800am - 200pm
Invasive Species removal. We will be cutting down and applying herbicide to invasive species in the Ives Road Fen. Boots will be provided. Long pants are required and long sleeves recommended.

Tree Planting with the Greening of Detroit: 800am - 200pm
We will help plant 135 shade trees along Jefferson, a major thoroughfare which welcomes visitors and residents to downtown Detroit.

Books for Kids: 800am - 100pm
We will be taking a trip to Detroit to sort and organize books that will be sent to area schools whose tight budgets don't cover new books.

Great Lakes Rabbit Sanctuary Workday: 830am - 1230pm
We'll be helping with the morning chores of the Rabbit Sanctuary! Cleaning and other workday stuff will be involved so dress appropriately!

NAACP Book Drive PRing: 830am - 1000am
Come help NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) put up fliers for their Book Drive for the young men of Urban Preparatory in East Garfield Chicago. We will meet in the Union Tap room at 8:30 to print out fliers to pass out and put around campus until 10. We will also do an after noon PRing from 3-4. Also if you have any money or books to donate feel free to come to our table at the Union between 9-3 to give donations.

Workday at Matthaei: 840am - 1220pm
Removing invasive groundcover, mulching, maybe some planting depending on the weather. Dress to work outdoors. Close-toed shoes and layers. Gloves and tool provided.

Kiwanis Rummage Sale: 845am - 1215pm
Who can possibly resist a Rummage Sale? Come spend the morning helping at the Ann Arbor Downtown Kiwanis Rummage Sale, one of the most popular local sales. Hang out with great Kiwanians, help customers, and maybe even do a little shopping yourself!

Salvation Army Bell Ringing: 845am - 1115am
It's time to kick off bell-ringing season! We will be helping Salvation Army, which aims to help the homeless and underprivileged, ring bells outside of Borders on State St. Make sure to bring your enthusiasm and it'll be a lot of fun!

Sciencepalooza: 845am - 115pm
It's Sciencepalooza at the Children's Hands On Museum! We'll be working with the children who are visiting the museum and assisting them with a variety of hands-on activities relating to this month's theme, which is We've Got Chemistry. If you love science and working with kids, you'll definitely have fun!

900am Time Block
Volunteering at Hope Medical Clinic: 900am - 1200pm
We will be working in their attic, reboxing patient charts and helping to enter patient information into their database. If you are looking to gain some experience in a medical environment, but more importantly, to donate your time to a great place with a great mission, this is for you! Please bring a wireless-enabled laptop with you.

Meals on Wheels: 915am - 1115am
Formerly known as Motor Meals, we will be driving around Ann Arbor delivering meals to people who cannot obtain meals on their own. This is a great way to explore the city and converse with some amazing people!

Cooley High School Clean-Up: 915am - 230pm
We will be working on removing the graffiti found around Cooley High School with an environmentally friendly scrub. Our hard work will help make the school a better learning environment for high school students and assist the schools in promoting higher education in Detroit. It'll be an exciting way to meet new people and really help out a city in need.

Harding Elementary School Work Day: 915am - 230pm
We will be helping Harding Elementary School with moving things and cleaning out a room for a new teacher/parent lounge. Our time and efforts will lift a huge burden off of the faculty of the school and help them achieve the goal of providing better education for their young students. It'll be a fun way to meet new people and really make a difference in a struggling city like Detroit.

NAP Workday: 930am - 100pm
Removal of invasive shrub species, such as Buckthorn, Honeysuckle, and Autumn Olive, at Argo Nature Area which is about 5-10 minutes away. It can be pretty strenuous, but it's also a lot of fun! There will be a staff to train us to use the equipments safely beforehand. Come do community service and enjoy nature at the same time!

Sequoia Brunch: 930am - 100pm
Sequoia Place is an apartment building for senior adults and we will be preparing them a "Resident Appreciation Brunch" and also eating with them!

Rockin' the CASA Event Set-Up: 930am - 430pm
We will be helping the Court Appointed Special Advisors (CASA) Program set up for their Motown-themed fundraising event, Rockin' the CASA! All proceeds from tonight's event will go toward helping neglected and abused children throughout Washtenaw County, and will help give those children a voice in the court system. If you love being friendly, outgoing, and meeting new people, sign up!

Bingo at Gilbert: 930am - 1130am
Yes, BINGO! Join us as this classic game is timeless and fun for all ages-- the young and the young at heart alike.Gilbert Residence, is a nursing home and assisted living service for senior citizens.

Habitat for Humanity ReStore Help: 945am - 115pm
First Shift. It's the ReStore's 3rd Anniversary with a blow-out sale! Come help staff, assist customers, and conduct surveys. They'll even have free popcorn and slushies!

Tutoring at Hamtramck High School: 945am - 345pm
The Bengali Student Association is partnered with the A. Scott Foundation in the CosMos Leadership Development program. The program's goal is to empower the junior students at Hamtramck High School through leadership development, academic assistance, test preparation and community service. We will be helping with homework questions the students have. If you love teaching this will be a great project!

Tutoring at Traverwood Library: 945am - 115pm
Enjoy teaching and working with kids? Come tutor with us at the Traverwood Library! We will be offering free homework help and general tutoring questions for any children who walk into the library. It'll be a lot of fun, and feel free to bring some of your own work along also if you like!

YMCA Cheerleading Tournament Help: 945am - 215pm
The YMCA is putting on a flag football and cheerleading tournament this Saturday at Ypsilanti High School and they need volunteers to help coach some of the cheer squads. We will be learning the routine with one of the regular coaches and then helping lead the squads of 8 to different fields to help cheer for different teams. If you love kids and cheerleading and football, this project will be a blast! You do not need to have prior cheerleading experience, just a willingness to learn and be enthusiastic!

Careers in Social Justice Event Set-up: 1015am - 1245pm
The format of this event provides opportunity for students to meet and engage with former U-M students currently engaged in social justice work either through a career path or otherwise. One way that students will meet these individuals is through panel discussions that address focused areas of work. Another way is through a networking session that will take place at the end of the day. Volunteers will be helping set-up the event and are encouraged to stay if they want!

Recycle Ann Arbor ReUse Center Help: 1115am - 115pm
Recycle Ann Arbor is a private nonprofit organization dedicated to providing education and innovative services in the collection, processing and distribution of recyclable materials. The center receives a ton of cool items that we will be sorting, cleaning, pricing, and preparing for resale!

Flower Planting with Geco Travel: 1130am - 300pm
Geco Travel will be making Ann Arbor look pretty by planting tulip bulbs at several supportive housing properties around Ann Arbor . It will be a lot of fun, so come help out and make Ann Arbor look beautiful. All volunteers will receive a 10% discount on a to Costa Rica, courtesy of Geco Travel!

Card Making for Hugs and Hope: 1200pm - 200pm
Children fighting for their lives have very little to smile about. You can change that by sending them some "Happy Mail." Cheery cards give these kids a few more smiles, a little more hope, and a reason to get out of bed each day. Experience the satisfaction of making a sick child's day and giving them something to look forward to. Send a card and a hug -- one of the smiles you create just might be your own!

Food Packaging with Gleaners Food Bank: 1215pm - 430pm
As one of the oldest food banks in the United States, Gleaners Community Food Bank's mission is to turn surplus food, which otherwise would go to waste, into millions of nutritious meals for hungry people in southeastern Michigan. Today, we will be heading to their Taylor distribution center to package food for families in need!

The Community Action Network is an organization that aims to assist low-income families with food, shelter, and family services such as after school programs for children. We will be going to one of their centers, Hikone Community Center, to help maintain the center and gardens. It will be a fun time to get to know your other volunteers and help out all of the families who rely on the center!

Creative Painting at Gilbert: 200pm - 500pm
Come to Gilbert Residence (a nursing home and assisted-living community) for Creative Painting! The residents will be given black & white photographs which they will be painting on with whatever colors they decide. We will be setting up the activity, helping during the painting session and then cleaning up!

Cookie Decorating for the Veterans Haven House of Hope: 200pm - 300pm
We will be decorating cookies and containers to give to the Veterans Haven House of Hope for the residents to enjoy. As these veterans have a lot of other struggles in their lives, it really brightens their day to come home to freshly made treats. It'll be fun for anybody who loves cookies and decorating!

Decoration Help at Salvation Army: 200pm - 500pm
Come help decorate the Salvation Army for the Holiday Season! They have all the supplies; you just need to do the decorating. They have bagels too!

Make a Child Smile Event: 200pm - 400pm
Make a difference in the life of a sick child! We will be making cards to send to children with chronic illnesses. It'll be a fun and meaningful experience!

Saline Craft Show: 300pm - 630pm
Saline Middle School is hosting its annual craft show and they need help cleaning up. The craft show is a great way to expose children to art, and they will need a lot of help afterward putting everything away. It'll be a fun time and you might get to see some of the cool art they have too!

Go Blue! Beat OSU Can Drive: 330pm - 530pm
Help collect canned goods around the Ann Arbor community for the Go Blue! Beat OSU Can Drive. All collected cans will be donated to Gleaners Food Bank to provide for families and schools in need. The cans will then be weighed to see whether Michigan or Ohio State can collect the most non-perishables throughout the week. Show your Maize and Blue spirit and help out a great cause!

Avalon Housing Office Help: 345pm - 615pm
Avalon Housing is a non-profit organization that provides affordable housing to many people who were homeless or have a mental/physical disability. We will be helping Avalon Housing reorganizing and packing their supplies.

We will be working with the student organization United to Heal to sort medical supplies to ship out to countries in need. Last year over 1 million dollars worth of medical supplies were donated!

Tech Day is the University of Michigan College of Engineering's annual fall event that invites prospective college students and their parents to explore Michigan Engineering. We will be helping distribute lunch to all of the high school visitors!

Rockin' the CASA Event Help: 530pm - 1130pm
CASA, a volunteer program serving neglected and abused children in Washtenaw County, is putting on a fundraising event called Rockin' the CASA, which is Motown-themed this year! We will be helping them with various tasks during the event, such as registering guests, selling raffle tickets, and helping to process their auction sales.

Do Random Acts of Kindness: 530pm - 730pm
Volunteer with DoRAK at the University of Michigan and serve cheese and crackers and small appetizers to Michigan students in the UGLI. It will be a lot of fun, and who does not love Random Acts of Kindness?

Leslie Science Center Mailing Help: 545pm - 815pm
The Leslie Science Center is a local Ann Arbor organization that hopes to educate and raise awareness about the environment to young children and their families. We will be helping them complete some very important mailings they are sending out to help maintain their programs. They love working with Circle K and really appreciate all that we do. It'll be a fun way to get to know your fellow volunteers!

PROVIDES Care Package Event: 800pm - 930pm
We will be working with PROVIDES to assemble care packages and write letters to children in developing countries. PROVIDES is an organization committed to fighting against world hunger and to providing children in needs with basic necessities. Come and write to Balkissa, the child that Circle K members sponsor!

United 2 Heal: 800pm - 1000pm
We will be working with the student organization United to Heal to sort medical supplies to ship out to countries in need. Last year over 1 million dollars worth of medical supplies were donated!

Blanket Making for Red Cross: 900pm - 1100pm
The Red Cross is always accepting blankets to give to families who have been affected by fire and other disasters, so we will be making blankets to give to them during their times of need. It'll be a great way to help the community and meet other people at the same time!

Hope Medical Clinic Mailing Help: 900pm - 1000pm
Hope Medical Clinic provides free primary care for patients without insurance or the ability to pay for health care. Amazingly, they are staffed almost entirely by volunteer doctors, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and nurses. We will be helping them stamp and sticker envelopes that they use for their mailings.

Little Dresses for Africa Sewing: 1000pm - 1200am
Little Dresses is an organization that came up with the novel idea to make dresses for girls in need in Africa. They provide templates for people to sew their own dresses, so we will be making dresses out of pillow cases we have collected. If you love to sew, sign up! Please feel free to bring some of your own pillow cases too if you have them!

Pitching for 1000 Pitches: 1000pm - 1200am
Have a great idea to better the world? Enter MPowered's 1000 pitches competition and pitch your idea! Think of ways to make the world greener, end hunger and poverty and disease, create a new non-profit organization or an innovative technological device. Think big! For every pitch received on Service Day, Circle K will be donating $1 to Habitat for Humanity.

Come find out the results of the Leadership Pie-ing competition and maybe help put in the last few cents to get an LT member pied or throw a few pies yourself! All money collected will go towards our PROVIDES child, Balkissa.

Stay Healthy, Stay Hydrated: 100am - 300am
Come pass out water and condoms from UHS on South University to people leaving the bars to keep them healthy and hydrated! The more, the merrier!

Blanket Making for the Veteran's Haven of Hope House: 100am - 300am
The Veteran's Haven of Hope House works with the Salvation Army to provide veterans with a temporary place to stay and get back on their feet. We will be making blankets for the veterans to snuggle up in during the winter. They love to have something that they can call their own, and that's exactly what these blankets are! If you like crafting, sign up!

Knitwits Mitten-Making: 200am - 400am
We will be knitting mittens to give to the homeless during the winter. We all know how cold it gets in Michigan, so having something to keep themselves warm during the winter is essential. It'll be a great way to practice your knitting skills and get to know other volunteers as well!

Letter-Writing to State Senators: 500am - 600am
Come learn about an issue and write letters to your senators! Choose any issue you care about and get involved by letting your senators know you care. Example issues may include (but are not limited to!) clean energy, health care, and educational reform. This is a non-partisan activity that is designed to encourage involvement in democracy, so come let your voice be heard :) It should only take a half hour to complete.

600am Time Block
Success by Six Packets: 600am - 800am
Interested in early child care and development? Washtenaw Success by Six is a program that has a mission to prepare all children in Washtenaw county for school by the age of 5 or 6. They send packets with developmentally appropriate materials to parents to help them raise their kids and learn about health care and support networks. We will be helping them prepare these packets to be sent to local parents. It will be a great opportunity to help educate the community and get to know your fellow Circle K members!

We will be entering and organizing data from the farm.

MAC PR: 700am - 800am
We will be PRing around campus for the Michigan Abilities Center which is a Therapeutic Riding center for children and adults with disabilities.

Whether you volunteered for an hour or all 24, come reflect and see what impact we all made on the community, and what the final numbers toward our goals are!
