CALL TO ORDER, President Stefanie Theis, 7:10pm II. WELCOME to everyone, especially guests Don Kossick and Bill Tasch of the Ann Arbor Downtown Kiwanis. III. HAPPY CENTS Happy Cents is a segment of the meeting when anyone can deposit change into our special "Jaria Jar" and have the opportunity to share something that makes them happy. This week, we heard that Phillip is glad that this hectic week is over and that he is going to New York for Fall Break, Whitney is also going to New York this weekend, Amy Mangieri will be getting out of Ann Arbor, Amy Shatten is going to Penn State, Amanda will be going to Cedar Point for the first time, Marci is finally feeling better after getting her wisdom teeth removed, Matt assumes he failed his Finance exam but is glad it is over, Lindsay Nelson will be going on a rock tour for her Geology class, and Stefanie was asked to be on the Circle K International committee for LSSP. IV. PROJECTS IN REVIEW Lindsay Nelson attended Sciencepalooza at the Hands-On Museum, where they assisted children with science projects relating to space, the planets, and the universe. Alisha Opperman talked about making the drive up to East Lansing to attend an MSU Circle K meeting. While there, they stole MSU's gavel (which they actually use at every meeting!) and wrote them a ransom note stating that they must send members to our Circle K Service Day to retrieve it. V. SOCIAL ISSUE OF THE MONTH ACTIVITY: HUNGER To simulate the discomfort that accompanies hunger, everyone was instructed to crouch down without kneeling or touching the floor with their hands and to close their eyes. To represent receiving assistance, one tap on the shoulder allowed the individual to stand up, and with two taps he or she could open their eyes. At the end, people who weren't tapped at all felt discomfort, and those who were tapped were grateful for the relief. The point of the activity was to demonstrate the impact that even the smallest gesture can have. If you would like to help, there is a Kids Against Hunger Food Packaging project this Saturday from 2:45pm-6:15pm. VI. WEBSITE FEATURES Stefanie and Kristin showed us and explained various features available to members on the website so that everyone can use it to its full potential. Once logged in, a member's information will automatically fill in when signing up for projects. Other features include access to the member directory with photos and a list of the individual's service hours. The simplest and fastest way to become a member with access is to fill out the online membership form. VII. UPCOMING PROJECTS Lindsay Nelson talked about the Washtenaw Area Council for Children (WACC) Chocolate and wine tasting fundraiser this Saturday the 14th. The first shift will set up for the event and the second shift will work the event. Manna told us about the Michigan Abilities Center, which is a rehabilitation facility that uses horses to help patients make progress with their ailments. We will be spending the day landscaping. Alisha talked about Kids Against Hunger Food Packaging this Saturday with Kiwanians. You can fight hunger in Africa by helping to create nutritious food packets that feed the impoverished.
