CALL TO ORDER, President Stefanie Theis, 7:10 pm II. WELCOME Welcome to everyone, especially our guest Don Kossick from Ann Arbor Downtown Kiwanis. During the summer, Circle K-ers sent us postcards from around the world while traveling and studying abroad various exotic locations. Three prizes were awarded: Yuly Wung won the prize for farthest traveled, Laura Grai won the prize for funniest postcard, and Mandy Schmidt won the prize for most beautiful postcard. III. HAPPY CENTS Happy Cents is a segment of the meeting when anyone can deposit change into our special "Jaria Jar" and have the opportunity to share something that makes them happy. This week, we found that: <> Kristin Doyle is excited to be getting a new computer <> Lindsay Nelson has finally decided her major after years of arduous deliberation <> Chris Corteg was sick last week but is feeling better. <> Stefanie Theis is excited about her classes <> Whitney McEachran is happy to be taking tennis lessons with Lindsay Nelson and their very attractive instructor IV. PROJECTS IN REVIEW Alisha Opperman and Chris Corteg talked about the Chelsea Kiwanis Sausage Truck. They made a lot of greasy food, wore stylish paper hats, and enjoyed being at the fair. Stefanie Theis attended the annual Large Scale Service Project (LSSP) hosted by Circle K International in Boston, MA. As part of the Big Brother/Big Sister program, Stefanie and other Circle K-ers painted a YMCA, cleaned a park with children, took 200 children to the zoo, and made fleece blankets. Zeil Shah and Ellen Creal enjoyed this year's International Convention, also in Boston, where they went sight-seeing and spent an exciting eight and a half hours in the House of Delegates. V. TRASH FACTS Trash Facts is an activity that begins with everyone writing an interesting fact about themselves (in this case, something they did during the summer) on a piece of paper, crumpling it up, and throwing it on the floor. Everyone chooses a piece of "trash" at random and tries to figure out whom it belongs to by asking indirect questions. Some things we learned were that: <> Alisha Opperman got into her first car accident <> While in NYC, Phillip LaRue was threatened on the subway after being accused of coughing every time the accuser opened her bag of pretzels <> Nick Hoffman had a pet deer living in his backyard <> Katie Proos almost drowned while kayaking VI. UPCOMING PROJECTS <> Service on the Water: We will clean up trash as we canoe on the Huron River, then socialize during a picnic afterwards <> Workday at Ives Rd Fen Preseve: We will be going to a beautiful nature preserve to cut down and remove invasive plants <> PR Events: We need help publicizing our Mass Meeting around campus, so if you love sidewalk chalk, sign up for one of our many PR events between now and September 14th OTHER PROJECTS: <> Northwood Community English Language Program Informational Meeting~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Tue. Sept. 12 7:00pm-8:45pm <> Riverview Nursing Home~~~~~~~~~~~~~Mon. Sept. 18 6:00pm-8:00pm To learn more about these projects and sign up online, go to: http://umcirclek.org/calendar.php VII. What gets wetter and wetter the more it dries? A boy leaves home in the morning to go to school. At the moment he leaves the house he looks at the clock in the mirror. The clock has no number indication and so the boy mis-reads the time (mirror-image). Just assuming the clock must be out of order, the boy goes to school, arriving 20 minutes later. At that moment the clock at the school shows a time that is two and a half hours later than the time that the boy saw at home. What time did he arrive at school? E-mail lgrude@umich.edu with the answers, and you may win a brand new car.
