CALL TO ORDER, President Zeil Shah, 7:10 pm II. WELCOME Welcome to everyone, especially our guests Don Kossick and Bill Tasch from Ann Arbor Downtown Kiwanis. III. HAPPY CENTS Happy Cents is a segment of the meeting when anyone can deposit change into our special "Jaria Jar" and have the opportunity to share something that makes them happy. This week, we found that: <> Alisha Opperman and Amanda Yu were wearing the same sweater, and it was entirely unplanned. <> Whitney McEachran was excited that her week ended because she had a lot of work. She is also excited about the Laser Tag social. <> Jen DeHart was happy that her professor and classmates liked her 20 page paper. <> Grace Milanowski added $1.80 to the jar because she found that money on the ground. <> Natalia Maska was excited to have her brother visiting. <> Phillip LaRue went out to dinner with Lindsay Grude and Stefanie Theis to celebrate not having to set up before the meeting for the first time in two years. IV. MEMBERS OF THE MONTH Every month Circle K honors 1-2 members who go above and beyond in some way to make a difference in the club and in the community. Congratulations to this month's Members of the Month, Alli Schaffner and Jen DeHart, for their contributions to their respective committees and for their willingness to take on extra responsibilities within the club. To nominate someone for Member of the Month, fill out the online form under the "Member Resources" section of the website (http://umcirclek.org). V. PROJECTS IN REVIEW Grace Milanowski talked about her experience at Detroit Project Day (DP Day) 2007. She moved stuff into a warehouse with other volunteers. She learned that heavy manual labor is a great way to bond with new friends. Sarah Biedron talked about the Key Club Dodgeball Tournament that took place on March 31st and supported the Ozone House. She played against faculty and was happy to see so many high school-ers involved. VI. BIRTHDAY EXTRAVAGANZA The Birthday Extravaganza, run by the Membership Development Committee, is the culmination of all the monthly Birthday Competitions from the year. The winner of each month is allowed to compete for the grand prize. This year, the Extravaganza had three parts: 1.) The six participants had to decorate cookies and describe their design. The other members served as judges. 2.) There were balloons and each had one of the three tenets on a slip of paper inside. The contestants had to pop balloons until they found all three tenets. 3.) The final activity was to correctly match up members with random facts. After all three activities, Phillip LaRue was declared the winner. Congratulations Phillip! VII. MEET THE BOARD The new Executive Board gave members a chance to get to know them better; to start out, each of them stated their name, position, and the reason they joined Circle K. The Board then drew unique questions from the interrogation box (submitted by the members before the meeting) and gave equally interesting answers. One question asked, "Would you rather see everything in different shades of green or give up the ability to smell?" VIII. UPCOMING PROJECTS <> Grace Milanowski talked about Ives Road Fen Preserve Workday next Saturday, April 7th. They will be cutting down honeysuckle. It is always very pretty and lots of fun. <> Charlie Goelz talked about going to the Chelsea Kiwanis Meeting next Monday, which will be a great way to meet more Kiwanians and get our name out there. <> Amy Mangieri talked about Sequoia Place Food Gatherers, also next Saturday, where we will pack food and help residents bring it back to their rooms. Here are a few that I found fascinating. -In the United States, the coldest temperature ever recorded was -80 degrees Fahrenheit. This happened on January 23, 1971 in Prospect Creek, Alaska. -The most snow in one season occurred in Mount Baker, United States from 1998 through 1999. The total amount was 1140 inches. -The largest snowflake ever observed was 15 inches in diameter. The was recorded on January 28, 1887 in Fort Keough, Montana. -The fastest temperature drop was 47 degrees Fahrenheit in just 15 minutes. This happened on January 10, 1911 in Rapid City, South Dakota.
