CALL TO ORDER, President Stefanie Theis, 7:10pm II. WELCOME to everyone, especially guests Don Kossick and Bill Tasch from the Ann Arbor Downtown Kiwanis, Lesley Doherty, our Lt. Governor from MSU, and Nicole Skupski, the District Treasurer from CMU. III. HAPPY CENTS Happy Cents is a segment of the meeting when anyone can deposit change into our special "Jaria Jar" and have the opportunity to share something that makes them happy. This week, we heard that: <> Manna is going to the service project at the Botanical Gardens on the 25th and invited everyone else to come, too. <> Amanda just bought her ticket to Quito, Ecuador, where she will be staying for the whole month of July. <> Krista just dropped a class she didn't enjoy and wasn't doing well in. <> Alisha received a letter in the mail from her little sister. <> Lindsay N. has a friend visiting from out of town. <> Mary spent the day with her Grandmother on a Zingerman's tour. <> Katie P. had a great birthday. <> Chris enjoyed the nice weather this week. <> Phillip is excited about DCON this weekend! <> Nicole S. and Lesley D. are also excited about DCON. <> Stefanie had a crazy week with exams, but is happy to be figuring out the details of her new job. IV. PROJECTS IN REVIEW ~*~ Tiny Tots: Amanda told us about the adorable kids who came, including one little girl whose mom offered her a babysitting job! ~*~ Broomball: Alisha told us about a disappointing loss to the team Snakes on a Train, who were too advanced for the novice division. We did score one point, though! V. SOCIAL ISSUE OF THE MONTH: LITERACY To demonstrate our Social Issue of the Month, everyone was given a piece of paper with a number on it and was told to obtain an education, job, and house by visiting five stations, labeled "Assistance," "Education," "Bank," "Employment," and "Housing". Each number was secretly associated with a different level of literacy, so members had various degrees of difficulty during the process. Some people had high-paying jobs and had no trouble buying a home, but others were bounced back and forth between stations and were denied high-paying jobs and loans from the bank and were unable to find housing. For example, Kabir tried to convince Stephanie that he needed to wear her dress, and Suruchi tried to convince Nick that Rula was pregnant. Once you were wiled, it was your turn to do the manipulating. Do you have funny DCON memories? Of course you do. Share them: DCONmemories@umich.edu
