CALL TO ORDER, President Stefanie Theis, 7:10pm II. WELCOME to everyone! III. HAPPY CENTS Happy Cents is a segment of the meeting when anyone can deposit change into our special "Jaria Jar" and have the opportunity to share something that makes them happy. This week, we heard that: <> Rachel and Alisha had a great time at the Jamaican Jerk pit with the rest of the Kiwanis Family committee. <> Manna let everyone know that there would be two screenings for Invisible Children after spring break. <> Whitney is glad exams are over. <> Stefanie is happy that it is almost spring break but sad that it will be her last spring break. <> Kelly is glad to be done with work and is looking forward to a warm spring break. <> Phillip bombed his Law midterm, but is going to Denmark for a Business School competition over spring break. IV. PROJECTS IN REVIEW ~*~ Jump Rope for Heart: Kids from Angell Elementary jumped rope and did other activities to raise money and awareness about cardiovascular health. ~*~ Botanical Gardens: Manna and Laura volunteered at this event for UM alumni and helped kids create their own plant using recycled items. ~*~ Washtenaw Literacy: Someone that Stefanie used to work with last year remembered her name and talked to everyone about his pet snail. V. SOCIAL ISSUE OF THE MONTH ACTIVITY The February Social Issue of the Month is Animal Cruelty. We played a trivia and learned a few things about animals used for testing in the lab and the number of animal cruelty complaints the Humane Society recieves every year, (which is around 4,000). VI. SPRING BREAK ACTIVITY We split into groups and were given props, a location, and specific phrases to use to put together a skit about a wacky spring break. Hilarity ensued! VII. UPCOMING PROJECTS - Relay For Life: Zeil and Amy are the co-captains of our Circle K team for Relay For Life, which benefits the American Cancer Society. The race will be held from April 14th-15th this year, so talk to Zeil or Amy at a meeting if you would like to be a walker and/or help with fundraising. - WACC Website: The Washtenaw Area Council for Children needs help maintaining their website, so if this is your area of expertise, contact Lindsay Nelson at nelsonla@umich.edu. - Sciencepalooza: Every month we help kids with a themed craft at the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum. - Washtenaw Literacy Games: Come to help people learn English as a second language. Many of them are studying to take their citizenship exam, so they really appreciate the help! OTHER PROJECTS: <> Riverview Nursing Home.........Mon.
