CALL TO ORDER, President Stefanie Theis, 7:10pm Thank you all for coming to our Winter Mass Meeting. We are also celebrating the 40th birthday of the UM Circle K. II. WELCOME to everyone, especially guests Don Kossick from the Ann Arbor Downtown Kiwanis, Circle K past Secretary Amy Grude, our Lt. Governor from the Michigan District Circle K Lesley Doherty, and Kayla from the MSU Circle K. III. WHAT IS CIRCLE K? Members of the Leadership Team talked about different aspects of Circle K and some of the large-scale projects we put on. In between each topic, we saw video clips about the history of Circle K and were given trivia questions about world events during the years that important changes happened in our Circle K club. <> What makes Circle K unique: Circle K, unlike other service organizations on campus, focuses on general service and offers a wide variety of projects. <> Kiwanis Family: Circle K is part of the Kiwanis Family and is the college version of Kiwanis. Our sponsoring club is the Ann Arbor Downtown Kiwanis, whose meetings we attend every other Monday. Our Kiwanis advisor, Don Kossick, comes to all of our club meetings and has been a great networking resource and friend. The other levels of the Kiwanis family include: Key Club for High School, Builder's Club for Middle School, and K-Kids for the Elementary School level. This year, we started both a Builder's Club and K-Kids in area schools. <> Become a member: To become a member, go to our website: www.umcirclek.org, click on "Become a Member," fill out and submit the application online, print it out and bring it with your dues to the Circle K office, Room 4213 on the 4th floor of the Union. <> Committee System: Our committee system is made up of three clusters: Service, External, and Internal. In the Service cluster are the Childrens Service, Health & Elderly Service, and Hunger, Housing, & Nature Service Committees. The External cluster is made up of the Fundraising, Public Relations, and Kiwanis Family Committees. The Internal Cluster is made up of the Historian, Membership Development, and Technology Committees. <> Website features: Our award-winning website, www.umcirclek.org, has an interactive calendar to view descriptions of and sign up for projects, a feature that allows members to view their service hours, a member directory, a picture album, and a wealth of other information. <> Variety Show: We will be having a Variety Show Fundraiser on March 15th at 8pm in the Mendelsohn Theater of the Michigan League. <> Mentorship Program: We match up UM students with Holmes Elementary students in Ypsilanti. Every Friday we meet with our mentees to help them schoolwork and play games. <> Trick-or-Can: Every Halloween we go door to door collecting canned goods to give to Food Gathers, who then disperse it to area Soup Kitchens and Shelters. <> Book Night: This annual event is held at Holmes Elementary and showcases various books for the different age groups. We read to the kids, do activities relating to the books, eat snacks, and meet the kids' parents. <> DCON: This year's Ancient Greece-themed Circle K District Convention will be co-hosted by the University of Michigan and Eastern Michigan University on the weekend of March 16th-18th. Aside from meeting Circle K-ers from other clubs in the district and doing service projects, there will also be an award ceremony and toga dance party. <> LeadCon: LeadCon is our annual Leadership Convention available to all members and will be held on February 10th. <> 24 Hours of Service: Circle K Service Day, formerly known as "24 Hours of Service," is an annual event featuring 24 straight hours of service projects. This year we had 130 volunteers complete over 500 hours! IV. VIDEO RECAP We watched a short video of Circle K-ers at projects and social events. V.
