CALL TO ORDER, President Stefanie Theis, 7:10pm II. WELCOME to everyone, especially guests Don Kossick and Bill Tasch from the Ann Arbor Downtown Kiwanis, Circle K alumni Suruchi Lall and Megan Foley, and Alicia Manzi from the Flashback committee for SafeHouse. III. HAPPY CENTS Happy Cents is a segment of the meeting when anyone can deposit change into our special "Jaria Jar" and have the opportunity to share something that makes them happy. This week, we heard that Kristin D. hasn't slept in a while but is still excited to be at the meeting, Sam was accepted into the ASV program, Stephanie M. is going to IKEA with her mom and brother this weekend, Shreyance is excited to site lead the UMix event, and Alicia S. is just happy. IV. PROJECTS IN REVIEW Lindsay Nelson and Alisha Opperman talked about their fabulous time at FLTC, where they got to pie Stefanie in the face, feed horses on a nature walk, climb a wall during low ropes, and play hilarious (and competitive) games of Catchphrase. Jenna Dahn went to the Signature Chef's Auction, which raised money for March of Dimes, and got to sample all of the amazing foods. V. SOCIAL ISSUE OF THE MONTH ACTIVITY: AIDS We learned facts about HIV and AIDS through trivia games, and how important education on the matter is. One disturbing fact we learned was that 90% of the world is living with HIV. VI. SAFEHOUSE FUNDRAISER SPEAKER Alicia Manzi spoke about a fundraiser in the making for next semester to benefit the SafeHouse, a non-profit organization dedicated to ending domestic violence. The event will be a four hour 'Flashback to the 70's,' complete with aerobics classes and other health related information sessions. If you are interested in volunteering for or participating in the event, e-mail manzia@umich.edu for more information. VII. CIRCLE K MAD LIBS In a hilarious group version of mad libs, four separate stories were generated by different teams. The stories were about a new invention, Thanksgiving, Suruchi coming back to town, and the true history of Circle K. During the story about the true history of Circle K, we learned that the club's three tenets used to be "love, heartbreak, and revenge". VIII. UPCOMING PROJECTS CIRCLE K SERVICE DAY! Circle K Service Day is THIS SATURDAY starting at 9am and running through Sunday at 9am. During the 24 hours of service, there will be many different projects, a ton of donated food from area restaurants, a performance by the a cappella group Compulsive Lyres, and there is supposed to be beautiful weather too! We will be camped out in the Wedge Room of West Quad all day between projects, so stop by any time; there will always be someone in the room. To sign up for CK Service Day and other projects online, go to http://www.umcirclek.org/calendar.php IX. ADJOURNMENT Thank you to everyone who came tonight! After the meeting we PR-ed to promote Circle K Service Day. Next week we will be having our Induction ceremony in the Pendleton Room of the Michigan Union. Dinner is at 6:30pm and Inductions begin at 7:00pm. Please dress to impress. ---THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN CIRCLE K--- * * * * * # # * MEETINGS: Thursdays, 7pm * # # * "The greatest WEB PAGE: www.umcirclek.org * # # * service to E-MAIL: circlek@umich.edu * ### * yourself * # # * is service OFFICE: 4213 Michigan Union * # # * to others" HOURS: 2-5pm M-Th * # # * PHONE: 615-0523 * * * * ------------------------------------------------------------------------- The mission of the University of Michigan Circle K is: To develop leaders with a lifelong commitment to service ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ How many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Suruchi and I have been talking about going to this little taqueria called Taqueria la Tica on Packard since before she graduated. So, because she is in town for a few days, we finally made it over there with Phillip today for the first time with high expectations. It was...an experience, to say the least. The restaurant is one, tiny, odd-shaped room, so while waiting in the "dining area," which consisted of a tiny counter with a couple of barstools, we watched the only chef there make our food from scratch. Despite the questionable circumstances, the food was surprisingly good. It wasn't quite what we expected, but I'd still recommend it if you're in the neighborhood...just don't let your initial impressions scare you away.
