CALL TO ORDER, President Stefanie Theis, 7:10 pm II. WELCOME Welcome to everyone, especially our guest Don Kossick from Ann Arbor Downtown Kiwanis. III. HAPPY CENTS Happy Cents is a segment of the meeting when anyone can deposit change into our special "Jaria Jar" and have the opportunity to share something that makes them happy. This week, we found that: <> Ellen Creal's birthday was last weekend <> Manna Hara announced that there would be an "Invisible Children" screening on Monday at 8:00pm in the Rumsey Lounge of West Quad <> Amy Shatten was happy to be running her first meeting as a member of the Executive Board <> Phillip LaRue was glad that our membership reached 190 members today, which matches the UM Circle K record! <> Whitney McEachran booked her flights last night for her summer trip to Europe <> Karuna Seshasai was excited that Don had brought her an article about DM that she was in IV. PROJECTS IN REVIEW Lindsay Grude and Stefanie Theis talked about their experience at Detroit Project Day (DP Day) 2006. The pair site-lead at Harding Elementary School, where they helped clean out a science lab, library, and janitor's closet. A few of the volunteers found tins of 44-year-old "survival crackers" from the Cuban Missile Crisis, one of which they managed to tear open. A number of volunteers were brave enough to taste the well-preserved crackers, and thankfully, no one became ill. V. BIRTHDAY EXTRAVAGANZA The Birthday Extravaganza, run by the Membership Development Committee, is the culmination of all the monthly Birthday Competitions from the year. The winner of each month is allowed to compete for the grand prize. This year, the Extravaganza had three parts: 1.) An obscure fact was read about a mystery member, and the participants had to guess who the fact was about. There were a number of facts read before four individuals secured their place in Round Two. 2.) A long and detailed story was read to the four remaining participants, which they were questioned about afterward. In a "Legends of the Hidden Temple" style advancing system, the first two players to answer two questions correctly went on to the Final Round. 3.) Finalists Karuna Seshasai and Amy Grude were blind-folded and poncho-ed in preparation for a squirt gun showdown. Karuna's quick reflexes helped her secure the victory. Congratulations, Karuna. VI. MEET THE BOARD The new Executive Board gave members a chance to get to know them better; to start out, each of them stated their name, position, and the reason they joined Circle K. The Board then drew unique questions from the interrogation box (submitted by the members before the meeting) and gave equally interesting answers. One question asked, "Clearly, you worship Amy, Nick, and Kelly; what are the reasons? Please limit it to 10." VII. UPCOMING PROJECTS <> Stefanie Theis talked about an MSU Circle K visit for their End-of-the-Year wrap up on Sunday, April 23rd. This will be a great time to support their efforts, socialize with other Circle K-ers from the District, and, of course, retrieve our stolen gavel. <> Chris Corteg talked about the Huron River Cleanup next Saturday, and assured the club that it would be "the last sunny day for a while." <> Manna Hara talked about the Nature Conservancy, also next Saturday, where we will be helping clear evasive plants and going on an informational nature walk. In my defense, that tin was sealed VERY tight. So that, of course, makes it okay. ...And also, everyone else was doing it! I don't regret it, though; it was the experience of a lifetime...or something like that. Q: Eating 44-yr-old crackers is A.) Something I would do every day if I could B.)
