CALL TO ORDER, President-Elect Stefanie Theis, 7:10 pm II. WELCOME Welcome to everyone, especially our guest Don Kossick from Ann Arbor Downtown Kiwanis. III. HAPPY CENTS Happy Cents is a segment of the meeting when anyone can deposit change into our special "Jaria Jar" and have the opportunity to share something that makes them happy. This week we heard that Stefanie Theis survived two exams this week and she's looking forward to going to the Circle K District Convention this weekend with 18 others members of our club; Kristin Doyle is excited about St. Patrcik's Day; Ellen Creal was pleasantly surprised upon discovering $6 when she cleaned out her couch cushions; Karuna Seshasai was happy to lead the crowd in singing to Amy Mangieri for her birthday; Amanda Yu enjoyed the chicken broccoli bake that was served in the dining hall for lunch; Chris Corteg found a lucky penny and had a good day so he wanted to donate the coin to Jaria; Whitney McEachran was glad to find out that she was accepted to a study abroad program in Florence this summer; and Zeil Shah would like people to sign up for the can drives taking place next week and she was happy that her friend Judy from her class was in attendance. IV. PROJECTS IN REVIEW Pam Averill told us about the Shamrocks and Shenanigans 5K Run/Walk, which took place in the streets of downtown Ann Arbor in honor of St. Patrick's Day to raise money for Save-A-Heart at Mott Children's Hospital. We stood on the course to hand out water to the runners and to cheer them on! Dana Simons talked about Books for Kids, where donated new and used books were organized and packaged for local schools. Karuna Seshasai spoke about Tiny Tots, one of her favorite projects. She played and did arts and crafts at the Leslie Science Center with some youngsters, one of whom started calling her "sister" after knowing her for only five minutes. V. SOCIAL ISSUE OF THE MONTH As a continuation of our Social Issue of the Month programming for March, we made "Warm Fuzzies" to lift our spirits when we start to feel depressed. The tags read, "When you are sad and feeling blue/Just look down at your shoe/And remember that someone loves you!" VI. COUNTRY-WESTERN HOE-DOWN Since this meeting had a country-western theme, we had a hoe-down! We learned a line-dance to "Cotton Eyed Joe" and had ourselves a rarin' good time! Yee haw! VII. COMMITTEE CHAIRS FOR 2006-2007 The committee chairs for the upcoming school year have been selected! At tonight's meeting, all of the new members of the Leadership Team introduced themselves by playing a game of charades. Congratulations to the 2006-2007 committee chairs: Kiwanis Family Relations-----------Alisha Opperman Mentorship Coordinator-------------Katie Proos Membership Development-------------Matthew Boshoven Historian--------------------------Amanda Yu Technology-------------------------Kristin Doyle Hunger/Housing/Nature--------------Chris Corteg Fundraising------------------------Whitney McEachran Children's Service-----------------Lindsay Nelson Public Relations-------------------Nick Hoffman Health and Elderly Service---------Manna Hara VIII. UPCOMING PROJECTS Holly Templeton talked about Wild Swan Theater at Washtenaw Community College, where we will be ushering for the youth theater program's production of "Once Upon a Time". Volunteers are welcome to stay and watch the show! Whitney McEachran reported that the Circle K intramural broomball team kept with tradition by not scoring a single point at last weekend's game. However, it was such a fun time that the bruises were definitely worth it! We will be competing again the next two Sunday nights at 12:40am at Yost Ice Arena. If you have never played broomball before, you will not want to miss this opportunity! Phillip LaRue told us that there are nine Circle K members who are going to be dancers in Dance Marathon next weekend. They will be staying on their feet for thirty hours to raise funds and awareness for children in need of rehabilitation at Mott Hospital in Ann Arbor and Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. In order to make sure that the dancers stay happy and motivated during the marathon, we need people to sign up to be moralers and to help run our activity for the Smorgasboard.
