This week we heard that Karuna Seshasai was glad to see Pam Handley at the meeting; Nick Hoffman is thrilled to have been nicknamed Bob Barker, who he considers to be "almost the coolest man who's ever lived"; Stefanie Theis couldn't wait to move into her new room; Zeil Shah is looking forward to the tours of the Big House taking place the day before the Superbowl; Mike Moses is excited about the Circle K a cappella concert on February 17th, as well as the Make-A-Wish Foundation bracelets he is selling; Megan Foley urges everyone to consider signing up for the Dance Marathon on March 25th-26th; Yahong Yang hadn't been to a Circle K meeting in awhile was happy to join us again; and Kelly Cobb was happy to be wearing his black cashmere turtleneck sweater in spite of the criticism he receives for wearing it 3-4 times per week. PROJECTS IN REVIEW Kelly Cobb talked about Hunters in the Sky at the Leslie Science Center, where participants helped some youngsters make cootie-catchers with birds-of-prey trivia and dissect owl pellets. The highlight of the project was meeting all the wild birds, especially the great horned owl known as Major General Franklin Reginald Tuftfeather III, Commander of the Armed Bird Forces, Honorably Discharged. VI. CLUB ROUNDTABLES We spilt into small groups and held roundtables to reflect on our club and discuss ideas for new service projects, how to improve meetings, and how to maintain a welcoming social environment. Feedback from our members is very important in ensuring that our club is the best it can be. If you have any other suggestions or ideas, please feel free to e-mail Stephanie Mayne at slmayne@umich.edu or the Executive Board at ckiboard@umich.edu. VII. UPCOMING PROJECTS If you are interested in mentoring a 4th or 5th grader at Holmes Elementary school in Ypsilanti every Friday afternoon, please e-mail Karuna Seshasai at karunas@umich.edu. Mentors get to spend an hour with the students doing homework, talking, playing games, and more. Rich Torres talked about Arbor Hospice, where care is provided to seriously ill patients and their families in a peaceful and comfortable environment. This will be a weekly project and attending a training is required. For more information, please send an e-mail to rictor@umich.edu. Zeil Shah reminded us that Love Pit, a District-wide Circle K event featuring service, food, and friendly competition, will take place this Saturday at 12:30 pm. Lindsay Grude and Stefanie Theis told us about District Convention (DCON), an annual, weekend-long event with service projects, workshops, banquets, award presentations, a formal dance, and more. The cost for attending DCON, including two nights at the Clarion Hotel in Lansing and all meals, is $125; however, our club will reimburse you for a large portion of this amount. "The same thing we do every night, Pinky: TRY TO TAKE OVER THE WORLD!" These lines were, of course, made famous in 1993 by Pinky and The Brain, two genetically enhanced albino lab mice who resided in a cage in the Acme Labs research facility. Each week Brain would design and lead a new plan for the two to take over the world, which ultimately would end in failure. Which of their infamous global take-over plans was your favorite? Also, if you wanted to take over the world, how would you do so and why? Send your responses to take.over.the.world@umich.edu.
