WELCOME to everyone, especially guests Don Kossick and Bill Tasch from Downtown Ann Arbor Kiwanis and Richard Brofee, EMU Circle K's Vice President. Also welcome to all of our new members. III. NEW COMMITTEE MEMBERS Thank you to everyone who decided to get more involved and join a committee. The new committee members were announced at the meeting and the new members stood up so the club would know who they were and what committee they would be serving on. IV. PENNY WAR UPDATE Stef from CR told us how the penny war is going, as well as reminded us about the upcoming A Cappella concert which is next Friday! Kevin is in first place with -$24 and Nick is set to get a pie with +$3. So far we have raised almost $100 for Jaria, our PROVIDES child. V. MEMBERS OF THE MONTH Our first member of the month was Stefanie, our Campus Relations Chair. She was nominated by the whole CR committee for all of the work she has done putting the A Cappella concert together. Kevin nominated Eric for the work he has done making the secretary position more efficient. VI. EXECUTIVE BOARD INFORMATION With elections only two weeks away, the current E-Board took turns describing their positions. A copy of "E-Board Duties" is available at meetings. If you are thinking of running for a position on the board, please let someone on the board know and we can answer any questions you have. VII. NOMINATIONS We are required to follow parliamentary procedure for everything relating to our elections, which includes nominations. A copy of the exact proceeding is attached as a text file to this email. The following people were nominated: %~*President%~* Nick Hoffman %~*Vice President%~* Phillip LaRue %~*Secretary%~* Lindsay Grude Eric Machak %~*Treasurer%~* Stefanie Theis Heather Hubbard %~*President%~* Megan Foley VIII. NEW COMMITTEE STRUCTURE The E-Board, with collaboration from the chairs, has developed a new committee system to be implemented this coming March pending a vote on changing the club by-laws. Under the new system there will be fewer committees and their responsibilities will be realigned to better represent the original purpose of the committee. More detailed information will be available at meetings and on the website at a later time. IX. BIRTHDAYS We celebrated February and August birthdays at the meeting this week. MDER had an activity planned for the birthday competition. All members with a February or August birthday were given half of a paper heart. Everyone else at the meeting was given a different half. The birthday contestants then had to approach people to find out if their two halves would match up to make a whole heart. The first person to find their true love was the winner, and will advance to continue in the final competition at the end of the year. X. SOCIAL ISSUE OF THE MONTH MDER announced the new social issue of the month for February, Mental Health, and gave a brief description of just what it means to have special needs and some of the common challenges these people face, such as getting an education or finding employment. They also made some suggestions as to how to treat people who may be different, such as not ignoring them. XI. This is because this is how they were done for the last ten years or so, ever since we started sending them out. Seeing as how computer technology is getting better over time, i.e. my monitor can now support more than two colors, I was thinking about sending out minutes in an HTML formatted file. This would make them look much better and I could put pictures and all kinds of cool stuff in with them. The only drawback is that you would not be able to read them directly in a SSH client, such as PINE. If you used web mail or outlook you would be able to get a lot more out of the email than you are right now. What are your thoughts on this? Should I keep them the same or switch to the better format? Email replies to: EricYouAreSuchANerd@umich.edu
