CALL TO ORDER, President Lisa Slominski, 7:10pm II. WELCOME to everyone, especially guests Jerry Nordblom from Washtenaw Literacy and the Kiwanis Lieutenant Governor of our district, Bob Hoepner. Also, welcome to everyone who is here for the first time at our winter mass meeting! III. PENNY WAR UPDATE The CR committee gave us an update on the penny war they are running to raise money for Jaria, the child that Circle K sponsors through PROVIDES. Basically, Nick is losing. By a lot. He had about $2.00 positive and everyone else had less then negative $10.00. If this trend continues, Nick will be receiving a pie in the face at the end of the semester! IV. WASHTENAW LITERACY Jerry Nordblom came to speak to us today about the program he is involved with, Washtenaw Literacy. Adult literacy is a big problem right here in Washtenaw county with 12% of adults having literacy skills below the 3rd grade level. Washtenaw Literacy works with these people to help them learn to read and write in both one on one tutoring and group sessions. Circle K has a project set up with Washtenaw Literacy which you can sign up for right now on our calendar. It is a group session where you will simply be making conversation with people who need to work on their English skills. V. BIG EVENTS SHOWCASE. The activity today a was a little something we like to call "Big Events Showcase." We broke up into six groups of about 15 people each and rotated through different stations explaining the various large projects that Circle K is putting on this semester. At each station we also had little games or videos to make it interesting. The events we covered were: ~&~LeadCon~&~ ~&~Poker Tournament~&~ ~&~A Cappella Concert~&~ ~&~Senior Prom~&~ ~&~Charit-A-Bowl~&~ ~&~District Convention~&~ You can find more information about each of these on the calendar at www.umcirclek.org VI. MEMBERSHIP AND COMMITTEE APPLICATIONS While you don't need to be a member to participate in any of the service projects Circle K runs, there are many benefits to being a paid member of our club. Members can take on various leadership roles within the club and attend leadership conferences. Also, members have all of their service hours logged and can check them at any time on our website. Members are able to join committees and get more involved in The club.
