COMMITTEE SYSTEM Our club vice president, Kevin Zhao spoke about the extensive committee system here at U of M. This year we have 13 chairs and a whopping 87 members involved in the committee system. We took time to introduce each member of every committee in turn, with a slide show displaying the names of the members under the committee in which they are involved. IV. VETERAN MEMBER RECOGNITION After hearing about the committees Eric Machak, the club secretary, told everyone a little more about the members that make up our club. This year we have a total of 155 members so far, and we expect many more over the rest of the semester and also next semester as well. We acknowledged veteran members who had served the club for two, three, even four years in turn, again reading their names along with slides. We also saw many statistics showing where we came from, what our majors are, and what year we are in school. V. LINDA BOZDIN AND HOLMES ELEMENTARY The night's keynote speaker was Linda Bozdin from Holmes Elementary. UM Circle K runs a mentorship program at this school where members commit to a once-a-week obligation to go to the school and mentor a child. She told us how the children love having mentors from Circle K, and let us all know that she still needs more mentors. She was thanked by our club treasurer, Nick Hoffman, and presented with a U of M Circle K T-shirt and water bottle. VI. NEW MEMBER INDUCTION Lisa presided over the new member induction ceremony where all new member's names were read off and they came up to the front to be presented with a membership certificate and Circle K pin. After receiving these they were instructed to remain standing in a line around the outside of the room. When all of the new members had collected their pin and put them on, everyone recited the Circle K Pledge: "I pledge to uphold the Objects of Circle K International, to foster compassion and goodwill toward others through service and leadership, to develop my abilities and the abilities of all people, and to dedicate myself to the realization of mankind's potential." After reciting the pledge Eric led the traditional "new member wave" and everyone returned to their seats. VII. INDUCTIONS MOVIE Everyone in attendance was treated to a special video made for inductions by the historian committee. There were pictures and video clips from the year so far, including general meetings, socials, and projects. VIII. Basically I have just been listening to the Top 40 stations but they seem to only be Top 5 stations and it's getting kinda boring. So let me know if you know of any good stations and I will post the list on next week's minutes. email to: internetradio@umich.eud
