CALL TO ORDER, President Lisa Slominski, 7:10pm II. WELCOME to everyone, especially guest Don Kossick from Downtown Ann Arbor Kiwanis and Ide Ussoro from PROVIDES. III. CIRCLE K FACT This week the MDER committee explained more about the Focus Team system and the individual teams. There is a team right now planning CK service day on the 31st so if you want to help out with that in any way email Justin Nematzadeh at jnematza@umich.edu IV. FEATURED PROJECTS ~&~ CK Service Day ~&~ What would you do during 12 straight hours of service on Halloween? Do you have an idea? We'd love to hear it. CK Service Day is being planned by Circle K members. Options include trick or treating for canned goods, a Halloween party social, and helping youth at Halloween events. P.R.O.V.I.D.E.S. Ide Ussoro came to speak with us today about her group PROVIDES which provides food and other necessities to children in developing countries. Circle K is acting as a "family" for one such child, a three year old girl in Thailand. Brian Bae is the head of Circle K's involvement with this program. VII. HUNGER VIEDO We watched a 5 minute video presented by the MDER committee about starving children in the U.S. The video gave us an in depth look at several individual children in the U.S. facing hunger on a daily basis. VIII. WHATS FOR DINNER ACTIVITY To gain a better understanding of what it is like to have to make choices about what to eat when you have a limited budget we did an activity where we broke into 10 groups each of which had a specific scenario regarding how much money they could spend on food. Each group had a sheet that listed various foods and the nutritional value and price and the groups had to come up with diet that was nutritionally sound within their price range. IX. CLOSING Inductions are coming up on November 4th and to be listed as a member you must turn yours dues money in by October 28th.
