CALL TO ORDER, President Payal Patel, 7:10pm II. WELCOME to everyone, especially guests Chris Perpich of Teach for America and Don Kossick of Ann Arbor Downtown Kiwanis. III. INTERROGATION BOX The interrogation box is a box where any member can submit any question they would like. Periodically at meetings we will have members volunteer to be interrogated. They will pick a question out of the box and answer it. Today we found out that if Kelly Anderson could be any food in the Markley cafeteria, she would be the spaghetti. Hopefully we will get to know a little more about each other this year. IV. JOIN THE CLUB Please turn in your membership forms and dues to the Circle K office or any board member. The forms are due by October 9th. If you have turned in a form without a picture of yourself, please let us know at a meeting or email a picture to circlek@umich.edu. V. TEACH FOR AMERICA Chris Perpich of Teach for America spoke about the organization and how we can get involved. Teach for America is the national movement of recent college graduates who commit two years to teach in rural and urban public schools and evoke the changes necessary to ensure that one day all children will have an equal chance in life. Check out the website for more information and to apply: www.teachforamerica.org or contact Chris at cperpich@umich.edu VI. READING ACTIVITY We split into groups and each group had a project to complete. The instructions for the project were written out on a piece of paper. While each group was supposed to complete the same task, some groups had instructions that were partially or completely unreadable. This made it much harder for them to complete the task given to them. (The task was to make a Circle K'er out of popsicle sticks, styrofoam, and a few other items. Some of the final products were quite amusing.) There are children all over the United States not reading at the level they should be. If a child is still not reading well by third grade, they are likely to have lifelong problems with reading. VII. PROJECTS --> HIV/AIDS WALK: Sun.
