If you missed the video, it's on the website at: http://www.umcirclek.org/whatis_videos.php V. A LITTLE MORE ABOUT CIRCLE K We moved to seven different stations to take a deeper look into the important components that make up Circle K: ~> SERVICE Circle K is, of course, a service organization. We run a number of different projects every week, dealing with a wide variety of issues. Membership forms will be at all upcoming meetings, as well as in the Circle K office on the fourth floor of the Union. If you are not quite sure yet, a great way to find out is to come to another couple meetings, attend a social, or best yet, attend a project or two. There is no minimum requirement for membership, but active membership is considered attending one project and one meeting a month. There is a $40 membership fee, which goes to international, district, and club fees. This membership entitles you to such things as attendance at conventions and leadership training conferences, committee positions and eligibility to run for elected office. Paid members also receive Circle K International's monthly magazine, which chronicles the events of Circle K clubs from around the world. Paid members have the opportunity to be reimbursed for their dues money by attending the Michigan Daily fundraisers prior to home football games. (Sign up online!) ~> LEADERSHIP Circle K gives students the opportunity to be a leader in a wide range of levels and areas. Whether you join a committee, run for club, district, or international office, set up a service project or make any other idea happen, you have the opportunity to change and impact our club. Circle K lends the chance to meet people who will support your ideas and help you help others. In fact, the Detroit Project, K-grams, SAVE, and Do-RAK were all started by Circle K members as a part Circle K. EVERYTHING you see in this club is the product of some member's initiative. ~> FOCUS TEAMS In addition to regular committees, there are a number of opportunities to be involved in specialized or short term committees and roles. If you have an idea you want to see materialize, you can start your own Focus Team with the help of other Circle K members. Past Focus Teams have included large scale project planning and long term projects. ~> SOCIAL Oh, yeah, we like to have fun, too. From after-meeting socials to weekend ski trips, to even just meeting people at meetings or projects, friendship is one of the strongest parts of our club. In fact, if you stuck around after the meeting, you might have gotten to hang out with other members while doing some service at the same time. ~> WHY WE'RE DIFFERENT, WHY WE'RE SWEET! What makes us different from other organizations? One thing is our variety; there's a lot of room to get involved in any issue or activity you like, and if we're not doing something you'd like to see happen, we offer the space for you to change that! Circle K also works extensively with other campus groups such as Dance Marathon, the Detroit Project and more. Beyond that, Circle K goes beyond just UofM, as there are other chapters of Circle K in colleges around the world, and we are connected on a larger level to the Kiwanis and similar elementary and middle school service clubs. VI. MEET THE COMMITTEES For anyone interested in learning more about our 12 committees we are holding a "meet the committees" night Thursday Sept. 18 in the Basement of the MLB. It will last from 7pm-8pm. Committees are vital to the success of Circle K - find out where you fit in! VII. NEXT WEEK'S MEETING We hope to see you at our next meeting, Thursday September 25th, at 7:00pm in the Henderson Room of the Michigan League. VIII. THANK YOU! Thank you all for coming. Please join us for our annual picnic at Gallup Park for some food and lots of fun! The picnic will be this Sunday, September 21st, from 4:30pm to 7:30pm.
