What would your ideal meeting be? We split into groups (by counting off backwards from 5 to 1) and each planned their ideal Circle K meeting. The groups then presented their ideal meeting to the rest of the club. Dream Meeting Ideas included: * A Potluck * Cleaning (and relaxing on) a beach in Hawaii * Mardi Gras * A Campfire, Smores, and telling us something new about you V. BIRTHDAYS In the spirit of the backwards meeting, we sang Happy Birthday backwards ("You to Birthday Happy") to all the members with birthdays in March. Each member with a birthday in March was mailed a playing card. The challenge is to bring your card to the meeting and combine your card with other peoples' cards to make the best poker hand possible. The incentive to make the poker hand is the SECRET GRAND PRIZE! Congratulations to the March Birthdays! They didn't quite get a poker hand, but they still won the prize, which is a page in the scrapbook. VI. Welcome to the meeting, especially guests Michael Mayer, Executive Director of Dance Marathon, Andrew Vieweg from Mortar Board, and Jodi Keller from Mentality. VII. Call to Order, President Mike Pearson at 8:00pm After (or was it before?) the meeting we went to the Comedy Showcase to laugh, relax, and hang out with friends. ---THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN CIRCLE K--- * * * * * # # * MEETINGS: Thursdays, 7pm, Union * # # * "The greatest WEB PAGE: www.umcirclek.org * # # * service to E-MAIL: circlek@umich.edu * ### * yourself * # # * is service OFFICE: 4213 Michigan Union * # # * to others" HOURS: 2-5pm M-Th * # # * PHONE: 615-0523 * * * * -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The mission of the University of Michigan Circle K is to: Inspire and empower college students to develop a lifetime commitment to serving the community through a variety of projects, a plethora of leadership opportunities, and a dynamic social atmosphere while allowing members to be engaged in what is important to them. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~HOLY JUMBLE BATMAN!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Disturbing Poetry. Which of these poems is more disturbing? Send your vote to disturbingpoetry@umich.edu. (Consider both the poem and the context of the situation when voting) OZYMANDIAS: http://www.plagiarist.com/poetry/?wid=2658 (Included in an email by the President of UM Circle K) AFTER AUSCHWITZ http://www.plagiarist.com/poetry/?wid=548 (A short girl likes this poem) The winner of last week's secret message (avoiding insanity) was Lynne: "When I am feeling a little disturbed, I like to bake a cake. I use quality ingredients and make the entire thing from scratch. I take the time to ensure that it looks beautiful: smoothly spread icing, no misplaced chocolate shavings or other adornment. Then I take a fork and eat it all." Congratulations Lynne... you can make me a cake any time.
