--------------------------------------------------------------------------- Circle K Meeting Minutes January 9th, 2003 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- I. Call to Order, President Mike Pearson, 7:12pm II. Welcome Welcome to everyone who came on this chilly winter evening, especially Don Kossick from the Ann Arbor Downtown Kiwanis, our faculty advisor Melvin Williams, Elizabeth Rupp from Dance Marathon and U-M Circle K alumnus Casey Ronk. III. Mass Meeting Our Winter Mass Meeting will be next Thursday, January 16th. To advertise for the meeting there will be a PR Extravaganza event Wednesday, January 15th, at 7:00am. Come hang out bright and early in the morning with your fellow Circle Kers while writing messages on classroom chalk boards. Also, we are encouraging all Circle K members to wear their Circle K t-shirts next Thursday. This is another great way to get our name out. If you don't have a club t-shirt they are available for purchase in the Circle K office. IV. Members of the Month Three members were recognized and presented with Stucchi's gift certificates for their outstanding enthusiasm and service in the month of December. - Laura Dolan was instrumental in setting up our participation in the Food Gatherer's Rockin' for the Hungry event that collected over 107 tons of food. Laura also set up our Ypsilanti Senior Center Anniversary Dinner project. - Charles Law joined Circle K last semester with an idea for club members to become pen pals with the Motor Meal clients we deliver meals to each week. This week our Motor Meals Pen Pal project starts off with it's first set of letters. Charles joined Circle K with an idea and made it happen. - Courtney Istre has an incredible work ethic as evidenced by her outstanding work with the A Cappella concert taking place at the end of the month. Congratulations to our Members of the Month. V. Dance Marathon Elizabeth Rupp from Dance Marathon spoke with us about how to get involved with DM. Dance Marathon raises money for pediatric rehabilitation that normally would not be covered by insurance. The main DM event is a 30-hour Dance Marathon March 15-16. The last deadline to become a dancer is January 16th. There are also other volunteer opportunities before and during the marathon. For more information please visit http://www.umdm.org. VI. Ski Trip The annual Circle K ski trip is this weekend. Casey Goshen reminds those going on the trip to bring warm clothes and to prepare to have some fun. VII. Upcoming Event Previews We broke into groups and came up with movie previews to describe upcoming Circle K events. Each group was given an event description and movie genre. West Side Story, Hello Dolly and Old McDonald were themes for several of the previews. - American Idol - A Cappella Style - January 31st Circle K's Campus Relations Committee is putting together one of the best concerts this University has ever seen! Please come check out this amazing a cappella benefit concert at Rackham Auditorium at 8pm! All donations will benefit the Washtenaw Camp Placement Association, an organization that sends kids to summer camp who wouldn't otherwise be able to afford this opportunity:-) Tickets (costing $8) are NOW on sale at MUTO! Come be a part of this show featuring Amazin' Blue, Dicks & Janes, The G-Men, the Sopranos, and guest groups, the Wisconsin Mad Hatters and Pioneer High School's Harmony. - Valentine Sorting - February 6th Every year Mott Children's Hospital receives valentines from across the state of Michigan to distribute to their patients. This year, they expect over 100,000 valentines to distribute to all the patients in the University Health System. We'll be proof reading the valentines and then sorting them so they can be delivered to the patients. We'll have lots of Kiwanians and Key Clubbers to help us out as well, so don't miss it! - Senior Prom - April 4th It's the third annual dance for local seniors! We'll get a live band and dance the night away with the seniors in the area, but we'll probably be moving to a larger facility this year! This is always one of our most popular and fun projects, so please help us make it even better this year! Please contact Elise (emetzger@umich.edu) if you want to help plan this event. - Can Drive Bring in your pop cans! We're collecting cans and bottles that have deposits on them and seeing if we can collect more than any other Circle K club in the district! The cans we collect will be used to buy rain forest bears, where a large part of the cost of those bears goes to saving the rain forest, and then the bears will be donated to a hospital after the project. This is a race to DCON, so bring in your cans! Take them to Meijer or Kroger and get the slips - bring the SLIPS to us, DON"T CASH THEM. We need them for the competition! The collection ends right when we leave for spring break, so bring them all in! - Elections - February 13th Want to hold office in Circle K? Want a say in what we'll do next year? Come to elections. It's extremely important that we have a lot of members there so we can choose candidates that we all want to be our officers for the coming year. Nominations will start January 30 at our club meetings. If you have any questions about any of the offices or what the officers have to do, feel free to come up and ask any of the current board members. Mark it on your calendars now! - Love Pit It's the annual District Valentine's Day Social. We'll be going to Michigan State University for an evening of dancing and an all around good time with our friends from other Circle K clubs in Michigan. We don't know the theme yet, and we don't have a finalized date, but keep your eyes on your email and the webpage for this event. It's always a crazy good time. Questions?
