Call to Order, President Mike Pearson, 7:12pm II. Welcome Welcome to everyone who attended tonight, especially U-M Circle K Alumnus Casey Ronk. III. Membership Forms Membership Forms were due today, October 10th. If you are interested in joining our club, it is still possible. Please let us know by e-mailing circlek@umich.edu. IV. Club T-shirt Design The winning t-shirt design is the black t-shirt with "Circle K" and "Serving the community since 1969" on the front. Our club was chartered in 1969. A sketch of the design will be posted on the Circle K website in the near future. V. October is Hunger Month While we were divided into groups of approximately equal people baby carrots and potato chips were distributed to the groups. Some groups received enough food to feed their group several times over. Other groups received one or two carrots or nothing at all. It is said that there is enough food in the world to feed the entire world several times yet there are scores of people that go hungry everyday. U-M Circle K helps distribute food to those who need it by supporting programs such as Gleaners Food Bank and Food Gatherers who redistribute surplus food that would normally be discarded. We also work with Hunger Coalition which runs soup kitchens supplied with food from Food Gatherers. VI. Let's make sure they know they are appreciated! ~ Midland Family Center with CMU - Oct. 18, 5:00pm - 12:00am The Midland Family Center has a dance every friday night set up for underprivileged teens. It's a way of keep the teens off the streets and out of trouble. Volunteers are needed to help prepare food, supervise the dance, supervise the activity room where students play sports, and basically interacting with other teens. There are usually about 150-200 teens every week that participate in the activities. We will be joining the Central Michigan University Circle K club in assisting with the activities. Come help at this inter-club and get the chance to meet Circle Kers from a different school. *** Sign up for these and many more projects online: http://www.umich.edu/~circlek/calendar.html VII. Detroit Project Food and Clothing Drive The Detroit Project's annual food and clothing drive will begin Oct. 28. If you are going home over break be sure to take a look around your home for clothes you can donate, such as those overalls you wore in 5th grade. Donation drop boxes will be set up soon. For more information visit http://www.thedp.org. VIII. Up and Coming SCaTs ~ Trick or Can U-M Circle Kers will dress up in costumes and go door-to-door with shopping carts asking for canned food goods. We will be doing this in Ann Arbor during the normal Halloween trick-or-treating hours on Thursday, Oct. 31, so you will definately get some candy, too. This event will replace our weekly club meeting. ~ Build a Library Less than 50% of the Detroit elementary schools have libraries. We want to create some libraries in the elementary schools. We are looking for people interested in developing this initiative. ~ Czech Polka Do you like Polka dancing? We are interested in getting a group together to go dancing. ~ Friends (the TV show) John, our Social Chair, has noticed that some of you are leaving the Circle K meetings early to watch Friends. We thought it would be a good idea to organize Friends watching-parties after the meetings. This may involve recording the show so you can go to the after-meeting socials and not miss the show. *** E-mail circlek@umich.edu for more information about these SCaTs. IX. We need you at projects! Please remember that when you sign up for a project that we are relying on you to be there. We do not want to disappoint the organizations we work with. Please check your schedule when signing up at meetings or online and don't forget to contact the project contact if you are unable to make the project. X.
